A two-track single released between the first two Sudden Voices albums. This was the result of a couple of experiments with texture. “I Knew You At Once” is based around a looping bass groove and vocal chant that passes through a series of distinct phases before coming to rest. “Tall Tales” floats along on a haze of reed and vocal drones.
A video was created using the text-to-image generator MidJourney, taking a tour through a highly selective history of visual art, including Hieronymus Bosch, Boticelli, Leonardo, Valaquez, Goya, Turner, Picasso and even Richard Avedon. Midjourney allows you to iterate over and it's interesting to see what changes and what doesn't. Midjourney is also trained on images scraped from the web, which is a rights management nightmare: how much of this is at all original and how much has been unknowingly plagiarised?
“...keeps the experimental aspect of space jazz and improvisational krautrock, while making the melodies more accessible by summoning a sort of spiritual hope in the chanted vocals and choirs, evoking the "Spirit of Eden" of Talk Talk.”
PanM360
“...balances the experimental with the accessible. Morris' vocals and lyrics ensure the song remains vibrantly human and accessible, as well as providing a focus for the song’s trip to the edges of conventional music.”
Analogue Trash
“The post-something vibes are palpable, making it a sonic exploration that echoes the experimental spirit of the '70s.”
